Multi-Host is a 'shared' network service that allows multiple network hosts to be connected through a hub/switch to a single jack. This service must be ordered through your system administrator and requires that all hosts be in the same location.
There are two variants of this service. The first is the Standard Multi-Host service, which supports up to four network hosts connected to a 100Mbps (auto-negotiate) network connection which runs on Category 5 wire. The second is the Personal Multi-Host service which supports two network hosts connected to a 10Mbps (half-duplex) connection which will run on Category 3 wire (or higher).

The cost for the Standard Multihost service (100M connection for up to 4 hosts) is $25 per month. The cost for the Personal Multihost service (10M connection with up to 2 hosts) is $16 per month.
Because the service is charged per jack connection, it is an ideal solution for small labs or offices where multiple machines or specialized equipment can be added to the network without having to incur the costs associated with adding additional network ports — thus reducing total network cost. |
