Therefore, only Telecommunications Engineering authorized personal are permitted to install or modify the campus physical plant or install network equipment. Refer to Section 10.7.3 of the University Operating Procedures Manual for more information on the Michigan Tech Telecommunications Services Network Cabling Policy and Procedure.

Unless other arrangements are made, all work will be performed on a time and material basis.

Jack Location Installation

Michigan Tech's campus is extensively wired for networking services; however there may be locations that need new or additional jacks installed. Requests for new locations will be handled by on an individual case basis.

Wiring Labs or Larger Areas

Cabling labs and large areas, such as a wing of a building, must be planned and engineered with the Michigan Tech Telecommunications group. Estimates will be provided with the scope of work definition. Estimates given for a project will be honored for 15 days, due to price fluctuations on material. Scheduling larger projects well in advance is important to ensure adequate staffing and parts availability to meet the desired completion dates.

Wireless Network Site Surveys and Access Points

All Wireless Access Points on the Michigan Tech campus must be installed and configured by the Telecommunications department. Telcom installs, operates, and maintains the Rovernet Wi-Fi service using the Aruba Networks 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi platform. When a request is received for a new Rovernet installation, a site survey is performed to discover any noise that might interfere with the wireless signal as well as the type and number of access points needed to cover the desired area. The result of the site survey will allow for a detailed estimate of installation costs associated with the project.
