When a notice comes into Michigan Tech that an IP address within Michigan Tech’s range has been involved in illegal file sharing, the Resnet connection is immediately suspended. There are several steps that must be followed before the connection will be restored.
Complete the on-line quiz on Blackboard. This quiz will be listed under the DMCA section.
Pay a $100 DMCA administrative fine for a first offense. There is a $200 DMCA administrative fee for a second offense.
Once both of these conditions have been met, the Resnet connection will be restored, but not before. Persons with questions should contact 906-487-1754.
The University does not monitor your connections for content; however, once your connection leaves campus other organizations such as the MPAA and RIAA may be monitoring for illegal content , and have been known to file DMCA notices, as well as take legal action.
We strongly encourage you to use alternative legal methods to obtain copyrighted material.
