Videoconferencing

Michigan Tech has videoconferencing systems, personnel, and facilities for both H.320 and H.323 (IP) conferencing. Michigan Tech is a member of the Michigan Collegiate Telecommunications Association (MiCTA) (www.micta.org) and the Sprint Video network.

While Telecommunication's Engineering supports the infrastructure used by these video conferencing services, Michigan Tech's department of Educational Technology Services supports video services and engineering.

MTU Cable TV

Cable television is available for MTU students living on campus. The basic cable service includes over 50 channels plus the MTU Movie Channel featuring 24 movies per month.

HBO and Showtime are also available for an extra fee upon request.

Husky Movie Vision

The Husky Movie Vision (HMV) channel is offered as a basic service of MTU Cable to all subscribers. The channel offers up to twenty four movie titles per month. Selections are made by a student committee to represent the tastes of the viewers. With selection guidelines there is a good mix of new releases in addition to some classics.

Husky Movie Vision is shown 24 hours a day during the academic year. Schedule information may be found on channel 33 in the Zap2It guide, the Zap2It web site, the HMV web site, and on the channel 2 information channel.

MTU Wideband Cable

MTU Wideband is a 2-way interactive cable system used for delivering video across campus. The Wideband system is used on an as needed basis to deliver video between various classrooms, lecture halls, satellite facilities, performance venues and several other similar areas.

The MTU wideband system is also used to support the university’s Electronic Display System (EDS). See http://www.ets.mtu.edu/eds/index.html for more information on EDS.
