Accessing your Voice Mailbox (Multiple Boxes)

The MTU Voicemail system will enhance the way you communicate by making it easy to play, send, and answer voice messages from any touchtone telephone in the world. All of your voice messages reside in your personal voice mailbox, which is protected by a pass code.

For departments utilizing multiple voice mailboxes, the main voice mailbox is the last 5 digits of the departmental telephone number. For example: if your departmental phone number is 487-4567, then the main voice mailbox number is 74567. Individual users are then assigned a personal designation number, which is used to access their voicemail within this multiple box system.

Individual voice mailboxes under this type of system always being with the number 1, which is then followed by a personal designation number, and finally the last 4 digits of the departmental phone number. For example: if the departmental phone number is 487-4567 and your personal designation number is 2, then your voice mailbox number is 124567.

How you call into your mailbox will depend on whether you're calling from on campus or from off campus.

Accessing voicemail from your Mitel telephone:

1. Dial *74
   
   OR
   
   If your message waiting lamp is flashing, press the message button on your Mitel telephone
   
   
   • Once you have gained access to the voicemail system, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "<your departmental message> "
     
     "To retreive messages for mailbox 11_ _ _ _, press 1. To retreive messages for mailbox 12_ _ _ _, press 2, etc."
   
   

2. Press your personal voice mailbox designation number:
   
   
   • Once you have gained access to the voicemail system, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "Hello, mailbox 1 _ _ _ _ _, please enter your pass code."
     

     If your account has not been activated, you will need to complete the user tutorial. Please see Getting Started with MTU Voicemail for instructions on activating your account.
     
     

3. Enter your pass code.
   
   

4. Follow the voicemail instructions to play your messages and/or access the user tutorial.

Accessing your voicemail from an analog telephone:

1. Dial the voicemail system access code *74
   
   
   • Once you have gained access to the voicemail system, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "<your departmental message> "
     
     "To retreive messages for mailbox 11_ _ _ _, press 1. To retreive messages for mailbox 12_ _ _ _, press 2, etc."
   
   
   
2. Press your personal voice mailbox designation number:
   
   
   • Once you have gained access to the voicemail system, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "Hello, mailbox 1 _ _ _ _ _, please enter your pass code."
     

     If your account has not been activated, you will need to complete the user tutorial. Please see Getting Started with MTU Voicemail for instructions on activating your account.
     
     

3. Enter your pass code.
   
   

4. Follow the voicemail instructions to play your messages and/or access the user tutorial.

Accessing your voicemail from another telephone with a voicemail box on this system:

1. Dial *74
   
   
   • Once you have gained access, you will a voice recording:
     
     
2. Enter * as soon as you hear the above-mentioned greeting.
   
   
• Note: Once you have gained access, you will hear the following recording:
  
  "Welcome to the message center, please enter a mailbox number or wait."
  
  
3. Dial your mailbox number
   

• Note: Your personal voice mailbox number always begins with the number 1, which is followed by your personal designation number, and finally the last 4 digits of your departmental phone number. For example: if your departmental phone number is 487-4567 and your personal designation number is 2, then your voice mailbox number is 124567.
  
  
• Once you have gained access, you will hear the following recording, if your account has not yet been activated:
  
  "I'm sorry, but the person you called did not activate the voice messaging service. Please try again later."

  If your account has not been activated, you will need to complete the user tutorial. Please see Getting Started with MTU Voicemail for instructions on activating your account.

• If your account has already been activated, and you have already completed the tutorial, you will hear the greeting that you previously recorded.
  
  
4. Enter * as soon as you hear one of the above-mentioned recordings.
   
   
   • Note: Once you have entered the asterisk *, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "Hello, mailbox _ _ _ _ _, please enter your pass code."
     
     
5. Enter your pass code.
   
   
   • Note: if you have not already set up a personalized voicemail pass code, you will need to enter the default pass code 1 2 3 4 in order to access the voicemail system.
     
     
6. Follow the voicemail instructions to play your messages and/or access the user tutorial.
   
   

Accessing your voicemail from another telephone on campus:

1. Dial 7 1 5 0 0
   
   
   • Note: Once you have gained access, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "Welcome to the message center, please enter a mailbox number or wait."
     


2. Dial your mailbox number
   
   
   • Note: Your personal voice mailbox number always begins with the number 1, which is followed by your personal designation number, and finally the last 4 digits of your departmental phone number. For example: if your departmental phone number is 487-4567 and your personal designation number is 2, then your voice mailbox number is 124567
     
     
   • Once you have dialed your mailbox number, you will hear the following recording, if your account has not yet been activated:

   • Note: Once you have gained access, you will hear the following recording:
     
     "Welcome to the message center, please enter a mailbox number or wait."
     


2. Dial your mailbox number
   
   
   • Note: Your personal voice mailbox number always begins with the number 1, which is followed by your personal designation number, and finally the last 4 digits of your departmental phone number.
