Welcome to the Resnet customer service and support
site. Resnet subscribers have high speed access to
Michigan Tech's campus network, including campus e-mail,
library resources, departmental servers, and access
to the Internet. This site facilitates installation,
maintenance, and troubleshooting for the Resnet subscriber.

What is Resnet?
Resnet, Residence Life Network, is a campus-wide computer
network that provides high speed access to electronic resources
both on campus and around the world. Resnet consists of
both the university's network infrastructure and student-owned
computers that make up the network. A group of talented
operators and service providers are available to make sure
that a student always has the access they need.
The physical cables are Category 5 and 6 Ethernet lines
that allow an optimal transfer rate of 100 Mbps. This, coupled
with an expert base of support services, means one thing
for a student: Fast, 24 hour access. Resnet provides full
access to the World Wide Web and all its resources. It allows
students to access materials from libraries around the world,
or to download notes for his/her next class.
[[ NEW ]] How do I apply for Resnet?
Resnet is included in room and board for students living
in the residence halls. Upon move in, an interactive sign-up
process will be presented in a web browser upon the first
attempt to access the internet. For more information, click

Every student will have their own live network jack when they arrive.
Signing on to the internet will be a fast process, just
open a web browser and browse to any site, you will be
redirected to a login page. Sign in with your ISO password
and follow the listed directions.
Connection speeds have been upgraded to 100Mbps.

The cost of Resnet is $21.25 a month, $75 per semester,
or $150 per academic year. If you are interested in

What do I need to get connected?
Getting connected is simple and easy. All you need is
a computer, network card and data network patch cable. Then
you simply follow the instructions listed in our Configuration
section. It's that easy. If you have any trouble getting
connected, our expert technicians are on call to help you.

Switches can be purchased from the campus bookstore (i.e. have more people in your room
than ports). If you have any questions or concerns you can submit a question to resnet here.
Not all network jacks are available for use in the residence halls, to find out what network jacks are available for use, consult the attached documentation.
What types of resources can I access on campus?
Resnet offers you access to endless sources of information
and opportunities. With Resnet you will be able to access
on-line catalogs from the Van
Pelt Library or download a study guide for your next
big test. You can listen to WMTU,
MTU's progressive radio station, broadcasting in Real Audio
or go to the Career Center
site to look for a job or place a resume. Through Ruckus,
you can download movies and music at little or no cost.
All class registration is now done on the web as well, so
you can avoid your departmental lab during busy registration
times. WebCT,
allows you to take quizzes on-line. With these and so
many more opportunities you can't afford to go without Resnet.
Resnet Service in the Heights (posted October 26, 2006) Daniell Heights customers are still required to sign up for Resnet service as any other service for their appartment. This can be done at the Customer Service desk located in the EERC room B12.
