About the Voicemail to Email Service
Michigan Tech's Voicemail to Email service is an optional voicemail feature provided through the University's NuPoint Unified Messaging (NP-UM) system. This feature allows you to listen to and manage your voicemail messages using your desktop computer, laptop, or any other electronic device capable of receiving email and playing waveform audio (.wav) files.
How it works
With this feature, whenever someone leaves you a voicemail message, you will receive email at your Michigan Tech (@mtu.edu) email address containing a copy of the voicemail message attached as an audio file. You can then listen to the audio file with a standard player such as Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, or QuickTime.
Managing your messages
When this feature is activated, the message indicator lamp on your phone will be disabled and any voicemail messages you receive will be automatically sent to your designated Michigan Tech email address. Once the message has been sent to you via email, it will automatically be deleted from the voice mail system after 24 hours.
However, because you will be receiving your voicemail messages through your email client, you will be able to manage them as you would any other email messages. That is, you will be able to save the messages, forward the messages, or delete the messages.
Just keep in mind that managing your voicemail messages through your email client is done independently from managing your voicemail messages through the voice mail system. This also means that any messages deleted from the voice mail system will not affect what you have already received via email.
